História

A 1ª vez que a designação RS foi aplicada foi em 1970 e foi com o modelo Escort RS 1600 o primeiro modelo da Ford a utilizar um bloco de 16 válvulas com dupla arvore de cames á cabeça e o primeiro a ser montado em Aveley, e também o primeiro a ser vendido através da rede de distribuição da Rallye Sport. Venceu em 1972 o East African Safari Rally e teve 3 vitorias no Rallye do RAC, venceu o Europeu de Turismos em 1974. Este Ford Escort está muito bem preparado pelo standard da ASM Team. O carro está na ASM desde 1999 e na altura conduzido por Carlos Barbosa actual Presidente do ACP. Em 2004 foi alvo de um grande restauro e desde então que corre com bastante regularidade, obtendo varias vitórias quando conduzido por António Simões, Mário Silva ou Miguel Rio Tinto. Realizou um tempo de 2.03.70 no Autódromo do Estoril e o de 1.54.60 em Jarama, utilizando pneus Dunlop Racing perfil M.
